Videography Questions and Answers
Q: How is wedding & event videography different from wedding & event photography?
While photography is important for any wedding or event, videography captures more than just still moments. Our services provide a complete re-cap of the entire day so that you can relive the sights, sounds, and feel of your wedding or event. For weddings, we record vows, toasts, and speeches for couples to listen to at any time. Our short highlight videos are also a great way to share the wedding or event with friends and relatives who were not able to attend. You can check out our blog post on this topic here.
Q: Do you also offer photography services?
We are a videography company, and focus 100% of our time into making professional videos for weddings and events. As a result, we do not offer photography as an add-on to any of our packages. However, we do know a number of wonderful wedding & event photographers and would be happy to recommend a few to you!
Q: What kind of gear do you use?
We use professional HD gear to record all weddings and events. We primarily shoot with a Sony A7S and a Panasonic GH4 and G7 which shoot in 4K. In addition to our HD video cameras, we use professional Canon and Tamron lenses that work well both in bright light and low light. For audio recording, we have professional Sennheiser lavalier microphones and various other audio recording devices. For more information on our gear or our videos, feel free to contact us anytime.
Q: How much does videography cost?
At Emerald Media Services, we pride ourselves on having affordable prices and quality work. Our wedding packages start around $1,600 and all of them are completely customizable to fit your needs. We understand that every wedding and every couple is different, so we always do our best to accommodate different situations. For event videography and corporate videos, we usually charge an hourly charge depending on the event details. Contact us today for a customized quote for your wedding or event.
Q: Where are you located and do you travel?
We are located just east of downtown Seattle and definitely travel all over the Pacific Northwest. We’ve done destination weddings in Hawaii, Idaho, and more. Specific travel fees apply for destination weddings and weddings and events more than 50 miles from Seattle. You can contact us for more information. We’re happy to travel just about anywhere to capture a wedding or event!
Q: What is a “Documentary/Full Feature edit?”
A Documentary/Full Feature edit is a re-cap of all of the important moments of the day. It includes many important speeches, toasts, or vows that happen. These longer edits (usually 20-45min) include much more content than the highlight videos. They are perfect for those wanting to relive their wedding or event in its entirety.
Q: What Wedding Package is recommended for a couple looking to capture everything from day-of preparations to the last dance at the reception?
For couples looking for a wedding video that captures their whole wedding day, we usually recommend the Deluxe Wedding Package. This package allows the videographers sufficient time to cover bride & groom preparations, the ceremony, and the whole reception. Then, you’ll receive an edited wedding highlight video, a full wedding feature, and a toasts/speeches film. For couples looking for even more coverage of their day, we also offer an Emerald Package.
Q: What is a “Toasts/Speeches Film?”
A Toasts/Speeches film is an edited video of all toasts and speeches made during the wedding reception. Most couples get this because they want to remember the complimentary things their friends and family have to say about them.
Q: Why do you not offer Raw Footage in any of your packages?
This is a great question! You can check out our past blog post on this topic here. While some companies gladly hand out their raw footage, we feel that our couples deserve a better product. Raw footage is un-edited, so it isn’t synced with our professionally recorded audio, it is not color-corrected, it is not in any specific order because we shoot with multiple cameras, and it is not cut down. If we are going to deliver our art with our name on it, we’d like to make sure it’s complete – just as a chef would never just put the ingredients to a gourmet meal in front of his customers and expect them to make it themselves.
Q: Can I choose my own music?
This questions comes up a lot with couples. As a professional company, we are not legally allowed to use un-licensed music in our videos. All of our music comes from proper song licensing websites such as Songfreedom or MusicBed. However, if you’d like to have input on the music, we are happy to email you a list of websites where you can select certain songs that you like.
Q: I’ve heard some companies take up to 6 months to deliver the videos. What is your turnaround time?
At Emerald Media Services, we make sure to schedule designated editing time so that we’re able to get videos back to our clients within 30 days of the event. Usually highlight videos are delivered within 7 days.
Q: Do we really need videography? Is it worth the investment?
Videography is one of the few investments for an event that actually means anything the next day – or year even! The major services – catering, venue, DJ, entertainment, apparel, etc – are only needed for that one day. Videography allows you to re-experience that day (and those services) anytime you’d like. We’ve heard so many brides say how much they regret not having a video of their wedding because the day was so hectic that they didn’t really get to experience it and take everything in. Emerald Media Services offers lower prices than competitors because we don’t want anyone to miss out on videography for their wedding or event.
